What examiners see students get wrong here
These are the errors that cost marks on changing economies, taken from our own topic notes. Read them before you practise and you will recognise the traps in the questions.
- Giving no named example on a 7 mark question. The mark scheme caps you at 5 out of 7 by rule.
- Choosing an inappropriate example: a primary or tertiary industry for a factory location question, a whole country for a factory location question, or a large country for a tourism problems question.
- Using only one named example on a globalisation question, when the mark scheme requires two for Level 3.
- Naming a place but giving no detail. Level 3 needs road numbers, district names, dates and figures.
- Writing that secondary employment simply increases as a country develops. It increases and then decreases.
- Answering a question about problems for local people with environmental damage, and stopping there. Carry the chain through to the effect on people.
- Explaining how a landform was created on a question about physical attractions for tourists. The mark scheme gives no credit for formation.
- Listing tourism management methods without saying how each works, or without a drawback, on a question that says evaluate.
